Biography

Dr. Aguilar is the IVF laboratory director and Andrology laboratory supervisor at IVI VIGO. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2002 and his doctorate degree “cum laude” in Biological Sciences in 2008, both at the Universidad de Jaén, in Spain.

He carried out his Human Embryology studies in Hospital Virgen de las Nieves, in Granada, between 2003 and 2004. Later, he worked in Clinica Avicena, in Jaen, between 2004 and 2006, in collaboration with Dr. Garcia Carriazo, where they launched the first IVF laboratory in that geographical area. Afterwards, he worked as the main embryologist in LABOFIV company in Granada, with Dr. Molina, and as a biologist in CEIFER Sperm Bank S.L. until 2008. He then came back to Clinica Avicena in Jaén, and spent another year there before working as a clinical embryologist for 6 months in London Women’s Clinic in Swansea (Wales). In October of 2010, he joined IVI VIGO as IVF supervisor and in 2011 he became the IVF Laboratory director.

As a researcher, his areas of interest are quality specifications for seminal parameters, embryo morphokinetics, oocyte activation and new technologies.

Dr. Aguilar is also involved in tesching at the University since he obtained his PhD.; he was a faculty of the predoctoral courses at the University of Jaén in 2008, and serves as the coordinator of the Master’s in Biotechnological Sciences at the University of Vigo since 2011. He is also an invited speaker to several conferences and courses about Assisted Reproduction.
