Epigenética
La revolución de la genómica ha sido fundamentar para redefinir nuestro conocimiento sobre las múltiples facetas de la medicina reproductiva. De hecho, las anomalías en el ADN o en el número de copias de cromosomas se pueden identificar fácilmente y asociarlas a patologías determinadas y, por tanto, evitarlas. Sin embargo, recientemente el impacto de los marcadores epigenéticos (como la metilación del ADN, la modificación de histonas o las regulaciones postranscripcionales de microARNs) han contribuido a mejorar el conocimiento sobre la expresión de nuestros genes.
Los investigadores de IVIRMA Global están diseñando estrategias para definir perfiles de metilación con respecto a los gametos y los embriones antes de su implantación, en aras de identificar las anomalías asociadas con fallos en la generación de embriones y durante la implantación. Además, se están realizando proyectos para determinar los niveles de metilación en las células somáticas e identificar signos tempranos y sutiles de envejecimiento reproductivo.
