Patologías reproductivas
Mucho antes de que la biología celular y molecular, junto con la epigenética, emergiesen en la investigación en infertilidad, los desórdenes endocrinos a nivel reproductivo han sido un campo que ha generado mucha investigación y análisis. Desórdenes en el hipotálamo, la función pituitaria y desarreglos metabólicos han contribuido al estudio en esta área e incluyen problemas habituales como fallos en la función tiroidea y la presencia de ovarios poliquísticos, frente a la aparición de mutaciones genéticas que, con menor frecuencia, están asociadas a enfermedades raras. Los miomas y la endometriosis también se asocian a pacientes mórbidos.
La investigación actual en este campo se centra en la búsqueda de aquellos factores moleculares que influyen en la aparición de ciertas patologías, con el fin de desarrollar nuevos tratamientos específicos.
