Criobiología
Los avances en las técnicas de vitrificación de gametos (semen, ovocitos) y embriones ha supuesto un impulso en el campo de la medicina reproductiva. La mejora de los métodos de vitrificación de embriones ha conseguido mejorar significativamente las tasas de supervivencia, lo que ha mejorado las tasas de gestación, optimizando la sincronía entre embrión y endometrio en los ciclos de transferencia de embriones vitrificados y así, facilitar el diagnóstico genético preimplantacional. IVIRMA Global lleva años evaluando la seguridad de los nuevos métodos de vitrificación de ovocitos, trasladando el uso de estas técnicas desde el ámbito experimental hasta su uso en la práctica médica diaria.
Asimismo, los investigadores se han centrado en la criopreservación de tejido ovárico en aquellos casos en los que se extirpa el ovario antes de someterse a tratamiento médico que resulte gonadotóxico, como la quimioterapia, congelarlo y trasplantarlo una vez se haya completado dicho tratamiento.
Esta línea de investigación innovadora ha conseguido el nacimiento de bebés y ofrece esperanzas para aquellos pacientes que tenían escasas posibilidades después de un diagnóstico tan devastador, como es el cáncer.
